Researchers
Our academic work is the result of an international, interinstitutional and interdisciplinary project carried out by scholars from the University of Bordeaux (UB)/AMERIBER at the University of Bordeaux Montaigne (UBM), the University of Costa Rica (UCR), the State Distance University (UNED) at Costa Rica, and the University of Minnesota in Morris.
This project, called Recovery of the Historical Memory of Chinese Migrations to Costa Rica (PREMEHCHI for its acronym in Spanish), has gathered nine professors and researchers of proven experience in their institutions of affiliation and one student of the Anthropology and the Law graduate programs at University of Costa Rica

Dra. Setsuko Sonoda

She currently teaches East Asian Studies and Global History in the School of Economics and Management. She was a visiting fellow at the Yale Center for International and Area Studies, 2000-01, and a visiting scholar at the Oxford Centre for Global History, 2016-17. Her study on the transnational nature of Chinese communities in the Americas and the extra-territorial policies of the Qing Empire relating to them won the 7th Iue Asia Pacific Research Prize from the Asia Pacific Forum Awaji Conference Japan in 2008.
